Each August, donated bookbags and school supplies are sorted at the center and handed out to enrolled families. In recent years the drive has been joined by the City of Miami District 3 Commissioner’s office and local businesses. A bookbag is a small thing that sends a big message: someone is expecting you to succeed.

With a robotics kit, a laptop and a coach who kept asking “what happens if…”, a group of students learned to design, build and program. The Young Tinkers program shows what after-school time can be: hands-on, challenging and fun.

Physical education happens every day at LLC, and it happens outside. The court remodel gave students a safe, bright surface for basketball, fitness games and team sports. It is one of the clearest examples of a gift you can see and hear in use.

MilestoneGive Miami Day
Give Miami Day is the center’s biggest fundraising day of the year. Students line up on the court with letters spelling the total raised and a simple message: thank you. Gifts on this day fund scholarships, meals, tutoring and everything in between.

Community & cultureEvery fall
The center’s Wall of the Americas carries the flags of the countries our families call home. During Hispanic Heritage Month students research their heritage, present to peers and celebrate together. Little Havana’s culture is part of the curriculum, not an afterthought.
Learning in actionEnvironmental learning
The garden is an outdoor classroom. Students learn where food comes from, how to save water and why small habits matter for the planet. It connects to science lessons, healthy eating and the center’s food pantry.

Leadership means service. Older students organize supplies, pack kits and, with staff, hand them to neighbors in need. They come back with a different view of their community and their own ability to help.

From Halloween to the Christmas party to Día de Reyes, seasonal celebrations are a big part of belonging at LLC. Local donors and partners provide gifts so that every enrolled student goes home with something to open.

Family support goes beyond the school day. Partner health days have brought mobile mammography, wellness activities and face-painting fun to the center so parents can take care of themselves while their kids play.

Summer camp keeps students learning and fed all summer long, with themed weeks, field trips and daily physical activity. Camp is scholarship-supported for enrolled families.
